GOLAZONEWSAbel Ferreira Equals Scolari with Fourth Libertadores Final Appearance
- Palmeiras manager reaches his fourth continental final with the club.
- Ferreira matches the historical mark set by Luiz Felipe Scolari.
- Only Carlos Bianchi has managed more finals in the tournament's history.
Abel Ferreira has secured his fourth Conmebol Libertadores final appearance as manager of Palmeiras. This achievement places the Portuguese coach level with Luiz Felipe Scolari for the second-most finals reached in the tournament's history. Currently, only Carlos Bianchi surpasses this record, having led teams to five deciders.
Bianchi reached the final in 1994 with Vélez Sarsfield and four times with Boca Juniors in 2000, 2001, 2003, and 2004. The Argentine only suffered defeat in his final appearance against the Colombian side Once Caldas. All his other appearances resulted in titles.
Ferreira’s tenure at Palmeiras has now spanned six years, characterized by a high level of competitiveness and a focus on tactical execution. While analysts often debate the aesthetic quality of his side's play, the team remains focused on its specific identity. This long-term project has allowed the manager to consistently challenge for major titles, prioritizing competitive results over being a "likable" team for observers.
