  • A Brazilian court has rejected the Public Ministry's request for the preventive arrest of Corinthians vice-president Armando Mendonça.
  • The investigation concerns alleged irregularities involving sports materials provided by Nike.
  • The judge also denied requests to remove Mendonça from his statutory position and restrict his club access.

Corinthians vice-president Armando Mendonça will remain in his role after a Brazilian court denied the Public Ministry's request for his preventive arrest. The decision was handed down on Thursday night by Judge Amanda Eiko Sato of the 25th Criminal Court of Barra Funda. The legal proceedings are focused on suspicions of irregularities related to sports materials supplied to the club by Nike.

Judge Sato's ruling extended beyond the denial of the arrest warrant. She also rejected demands for Mendonça's removal from his statutory position at Corinthians, a ban on his entry to the club's premises, and limitations on his communication with other directors and potential witnesses involved in the ongoing inquiry. This means Mendonça retains his official capacity and access to the club.

In a separate development reported by Voz do Setorista, Julio Cesar has assumed the responsibilities previously held by an executive who was recently dismissed from Corinthians.
