- The Rio-based club is expected to rest starters ahead of their Copa Sudamericana semifinal.
- Jesús Valenzuela has been appointed to referee the Vasco-Cruzeiro semifinal match.
Vasco heads to Morumbis this Saturday at 21:00 to face São Paulo in Brasileirão action. With a Copa Sudamericana semifinal match against Boca Juniors scheduled for Tuesday at home, it is expected that the Rio club will rest key players for the weekend fixture.
Historically, São Paulo holds the advantage when hosting this matchup. Since 2006, the two sides have met 15 times at the venue, resulting in nine São Paulo victories, three draws, and three wins for Vasco. Vasco secured a 3-1 victory at Morumbis last year.
Separately, Conmebol announced that Jesús Valenzuela will officiate the Copa Sudamericana semifinal second leg between Vasco and Cruzeiro at the Maracanã on Tuesday. The Venezuelan referee has faced recent complaints regarding his officiating in matches between Brazilian clubs and Boca Juniors, including a group stage Libertadores clash between Cruzeiro and Boca earlier this season.
