Palmeiras claimed a 2-1 win against Fluminense in the opening leg of their Copa Libertadores semifinal on Wednesday night at the Maracanã. Despite Fluminense controlling much of the match and maintaining possession, they were punished by the visitors' effective counter-attacks.

Thiago Silva noted a lack of aggression from his side, while Fluminense's Wesley Natã registered his first professional goal to narrow the deficit. The match was also notable for the reception given to Jhon Arias, who was booed by Fluminense supporters throughout his 74 minutes on the pitch. The Colombian player criticized the home fans, suggesting they suffer from amnesia regarding his time at the club.

Despite the result, Fluminense manager Marcão insists his team remains in contention for a spot in the final, expressing belief in their ability to recover.
