- Construction of Generali Stadium is set to start in 2028, aiming to open for the 2031-32 season.
- The €1.2 billion joint project met with protests from some supporters outside the launch event.
AC Milan and Internazionale have officially presented their project for a new shared venue, named Generali Stadium, which will replace the historic San Siro. Unveiled at a gala event at Milan's Castello Sforzesco on Thursday, the arena takes its name from Italy's largest insurance firm. The development is expected to cost the two clubs a combined €1.2 billion (£1 billion).
Inspired by Milan's Duomo Cathedral, the 71,500-capacity venue was designed by the firms behind London's Wembley Stadium. The new arena will be constructed on the space currently occupied by San Siro's parking lot. Building work is scheduled to begin in 2028, with the first match planned for the 2031-32 season.
The presentation was accompanied by opposition from supporters. During the event, some attendees voiced their disagreement, while Inter fans held protests outside the venue.
