Corinthians Electoral Commission upholds veto on Sergio Janikian's candidacy
- Court annuls conviction of Chapa 5 presidential candidate.
- Club maintains rejection of the candidacy despite the ruling.
- Janikian must seek legal action to run in the election.
The Electoral Commission of Corinthians has decided to maintain the veto on Sergio Janikian's presidential candidacy, even after a recent legal victory for the Chapa 5 representative. On Friday, the Justice of Santa Catarina annulled a second-instance conviction against Janikian, which had been the basis for his initial disqualification.
Despite the court's decision, Romeu Tuma Júnior, president of the club's Deliberative Council, confirmed that the internal rejection stands. According to Tuma Júnior, Janikian will now be required to pursue further legal remedies through the court system if he intends to participate in the upcoming election. The Electoral Commission operates as a body under the Deliberative Council's jurisdiction.
This administrative update comes as the team recently secured a victory in the Brasileirão, ending a winless streak that had lasted 82 days.
