The Ballon d'Or ceremony is set to take place at the London Palladium this Monday. The venue choice serves as a nod to Stanley Matthews, who received the inaugural prize 70 years ago.
The first award was presented by Gabriel Hanot, the L'Équipe editor who conceived the idea of crowning the world’s top player annually, at Blackpool town hall. According to Record, only two individuals are aware of the winner's identity prior to the ceremony, a situation they describe as involving significant pressure.
